Exclusive Interview with MOTi

Exclusive Interview with MOTi

House artist and production machine MOTi remains a bit of a mystery to some. But this rising star is heading a new wave of EDM talent, and the "not so new" kid on the block is fully prepared to take over the scene with his massive sound! MOTi's first single absolutely tore up the house charts in the first quarter of 2013, as 'Krack,' electro house at the highest level, put this young talent on the map with his hard-edged, floor-filling sound. He followed up this hit with an official remix for Emili Sande's hit single "Next To Me." With his releases on famed labels like Wall Recordings, Spinnin' and New State, MOTi has carved out a name for himself in the house music scene.

Siam2nite had the opportunity to have an exclusive interview with MOTi, shortly before his performance at the 7th Anniversary of The Club Khaosan on 8th November alongside Marc MacRowland.

You are from Amsterdam in the Netherlands. How did you get in touch with electronic dance music?

I used to party a lot, haha!! First time I got in touch with dance music was when a friend invited me to a party called Innercity.

You produce mainly Electro- and Progressive House. How would you describe your own music in just a few words?

Big break downs, heavy drops.

You just recently performed at the ADE (Amsterdam Dance Event) in the Ziggo Dome, alongside Tiësto, Calvin Harris, Danny Avila and Punish. How was your experience?

It was amazing, such an awesome crowd and great energy.

Your single “Krack”, as well as collaborations “Back To The Acid” (with Tiesto) and “Dynamite” (with Quintino) were highly successful. Besides that tracks - out of all tracks you have made - which would you recommend to someone that is not yet familiar with your music?

Heat It Up, got released today (8th nov) check it out hope you guys like it. You should also check out Crystal Fighters – Wave (MOTi Remix) this release really shows my progressive work.

What are you currently working and focusing on? What’s on your agenda for the near future?

Working on a lot of new solo tracks and just recently signed with Tiesto to work a lot more together in the near future. Tomorrow I’m playing Jakarta and the 13th Bangkok. In December a lot of gigs in the Netherlands.

You travel a lot. What are the essential things you need to have with you at all times and what are the things you miss when you are on tour?

I need my laptop!! I miss my own bed, there’s nothing like home.

What was the best and the worst gig you ever played and what was the funniest thing ever occurred during any of your performances?

Best gig was definitely Ziggodome. Worst gig I cant remember, probably some gig where there were not much people or people didn’t want to hear House music.
One time a girl asked to sign here tit while I was playing, she slipped and fell. It was kinda sad for her but I couldn’t stop laughing.

On 13th October you will perform live here in Bangkok debut at The Club Khaosan. Have you visited Thailand before? Will you performance be your Bangkok Debut?

It is my first time ever in Bangkok, so its my debut! Really excited to play here!!

What can Bangkok expect of your upcoming performance?

A lot of energy and a lot of new music!!
