Exclusive Interview with WATAPACHI

Exclusive Interview with WATAPACHI

DOUBLE TROUBLE - the monthly club night by DJ KNATZ and DJ GUS - is celebrating its 1 Year Anniversary. They will be joined by Tokyo based Producer/DJ Duo WATAPACHI. Expect the best of Old & New School Hip Hop, Trap, Twerk and Dancehall.

Siam2nite had the opportunity to have an exclusive interview with WATAPACHI, shortly before their performance at Grease on 21st November.

You are two Japanese DJs & Producers that met during a basketball game. What did you do before you founded WATAPACHI together and what made you team up?

N: I was in college when I met SES. I was studying, and making music and also DJing solo at the same time. SES asked me to teach him how to DJ and I showed him how. That was the beginning of WATAPACHI.

S: I was just working everyday. After the basketball game we got along and started duo dj group.

Your sound is a bass-heavy mix of Trap and Hip Hop. How would you describe your own music in just a few words?

Trap and Hiphop is definitely the core for our sets. We also like to add in Minimal House, Acid Techno also! Our sounds are dark, powerful and you can say sexy in a way too. Party and also fashion friendly.

What tracks, remixes or mix-sets would you recommend to someone that is not yet familiar with your music?

S: There are alot of upcoming producers around the world. troyboi, mr. carmack, brodinski

N: I personally prefer listening to Brodinski's old / new mixes, and labels such as Pelican Fly, Bromance, Wedidit. I really like Gucci Mane's Trap God 3 Mixtape, also the recent 4 track release by G.O.O.D Music's Big Sean. Go check it out.

What are you currently working and focusing on?

New EP is in progress.

What was the best and the worst gig you ever played and what was the funniest thing ever occurred during any of your performances?

N: BEST - Best is our next gig.
WORST - I wouldn't say worst but, craziest was when we were in Russia when someone spilled champagne all over my laptop because the party was so crazy!

S: BEST - LA WAREHOUSE PARTY (TRAPSTYLE) it was so popping the dj table fell of but lucky we saved the table and the sound didnt turn off.
WORST - not really

You live in Tokyo - the capital of Japan and the most populous metropolitan area in the world. What can you tell us about clubbing and nightlife there? Do you have any nightlife related suggestions for first-time visitors?

If you compare the club life in the states and japan is a big difference. less people go out to clubs. people have this scary and dangerous image about clubs. Plus Jpop and idols are the major thing in japan. If u like to party go to roppongi but if you dont like top 40 shit Shibuya is a better place to go. for example VISION, TRUMPROOM, WOMB, AGEHA is a recommending place to go.

On 21st November you will live perform live here in Bangkok at Grease, on the occasion of the 1 Year Anniversary of Double Trouble. Have you visited Thailand before? Will it be your Bangkok debut? What can we expect of your upcoming performance?

N: It's my first time in Bangkok. Very excited and want to make it a night to remember.
