Siam2nite had the opportunity to have an exclusive interview with Reece Low, shortly before his performance at ONYX RCA on 5th February.

You are respected as one of Australia’s strongest producers and you were ranked #23 at last year’s inthemix Australia Awards. How did you get in touch with electronic dance music in the first place and how did you get into DJing and music production?

I was first introduced to Electronic Dance Music when I started nightclubbing. I was brought up listening to a broad range of music styles including R'n'B, Reggae, even country. Electro was a big change for me, but it grew on me fast.

Not long after I turned 18 I was out at a friends birthday and they had a DJ; this was the first time I had seen DJ Equipment up close. I was instantly drawn to the craft and wanted to learn more. Two weeks later I owned a set of Digital Turntables and a Mixer, and I was on my way.

You play and produce Electro House. How would you describe your own music in just a few words?

Bassy, Fun, Bouncy, Ravey

You are one of the most prominent upcoming DJs associated with the “Melbourne Bounce” sound. For those that don’t know it yet, how would you describe it and which of your tracks would you use as an example for it?

"Melbourne Bounce" is very easily recognized by its grungy "Off-beat" Basslines. My collaboration with Joel Fletcher 'Back 2 Front' is a great example of a "Bounce" track.

My career as producer was very Melbourne Bounce influenced in the beginning, but as my career has progressed my production has become more diverse ranging though progressive, electro, and bounce.

In 2014 you have release several highly successful tracks, such as “Circus”, “Back 2 Front” (with Joel Fletcher) and “Slapjack” (with Henry Fong). What tracks would you recommend to someone that is not yet familiar with your music?

The 3 tracks you mentioned are probably my most successful tracks. I would definitely recommend these tracks to someone who isn't familiar with my production, along with a few others such as my remix for SCNDL 'Forever', remix for The Only 'R.A.G.E' & original 'Fire'.

You have played clubs all around the world and Australia’s biggest festivals Future Music Festival & Stereosonic. What was the best and the worst gig you ever played and what was the funniest thing ever occurred during any of your performances?

The best show I've played would have to be Stereosonic 2014 in Sydney; The Crowd was unreal and the production from the Steresonic team was amazing. A few of my other favourite venues would have to be Pacha (Sydney), HQ Complex (Adelaide), The Yost Theater (California), and Xses (France).

I have played a few bad shows, I won’t drop any names but lets just say I probably wont be playing these venues again lol!

The funniest thing I have ever seen whilst playing a show would have to be a gig back in 2011 at a Melbourne Nightclub. While I was performing a girl obviously very intoxicated started licking the Perspex wall surrounding the DJ Booth. The Perspex would have been disgustingly dirty.

What’s on your agenda for 2015 and what are you currently and focusing working on?

I have plenty of tracks lined up ready for release early 2015, some of them are collabs with some amazing artists who I wont name just yet, so definitely keep an ear out for these new ones.

My main focus for 2015 is to smash the studio as much as possible, along with steady international touring. I already have a few big announcements, which I will be sharing with the world over the next few months, so keep an eye on my fanpage :)

You were born & raised and live in Melbourne – the second-most populous city in Australia, after the capital Sydney. What can you tell us about clubbing and nightlife there? Do you have any nightlife related suggestions for first-time visitors?

Melbourne is named the #1 most livable city in the world and for good reason.

Melbournes nightlife is very popular especially after the success of the "Melbourne Bounce" Genre. Everyone I talk to around the world wants to experience Melbourne's nightlife and I hope they do because it’s a very unique nightlife as it is the home of Bounce. There are very few nightclubs in Melbourne that don’t play Bounce but you can definitely experience great Deep House, Tech House along with the large Melbourne bounce presence.

I would definitely recommend the venue 'Billboards' as one of the best clubs in Melbourne, if not the best as it’s the home of 'Lucky Entertainment' the agency that represents Will Sparks, Joel Fletcher & Several other successful artists. If you are in town don’t miss their Thursday or Saturday night parties.

On 5th February you will make your Thailand Debut at ONYX RCA Have you visited Thailand before? What can Bangkok expect of your upcoming performance?

No, I have never visited Thailand and I am so excited to be able to share my music and perform for you guys on February 5. I have visited much of Asia but Thailand is still yet one to cross off the list, so very happy to be making this trip over.

Bangkok can expect a SICK! Party, I hope to see all of my Thailand followers there so I can show them how us Aussie artists party. Peace!
