Exclusive Interview with Shiba San

Exclusive Interview with Shiba San

Shiba Sanis a up-and-coming DJ & Producer from France. His music is referred to as Ghetto Funk - an innovative & fresh mix of Deep House and Hip Hop. His track “Okay” was ranked #1 House track in Beatport’s “Best of 2014” list. His performance at KU DÉ TA Bangkok will be his Thailand Debut.

Siam2nite had the opportunity to have an exclusive interview with Shiba San, shortly before his performance at KU DÉ TA Bangkok on 7th February.

Though you just recently started to release music as “Shiba San”, you have been active as music producer for over 15 years. How did you get into DJing and music production?

I came across some DJs and it immediately drew my attention, so I bought some turntables and decided to start to produce as well. I started with Chicago House, and then I quickly switched to Hip Hop for scratching and the technical side.

Your music is Deep House with Hip Hop influence, often referred to as “Ghetto House” - House music with striking bass lines. A great example of this music is your track “Okay” which was ranked #1 House track in Beatport’s “Best of 2014” list. What other tracks, remixes or mixsets would you recommend to someone that is not yet familiar with your music?

I recommend everything that I’ve done (LOL) because I don’t think I have one specific style. The best way to hear it is to visit my Souncloud profile, where I post many of my DJ Sets and most of my tracks.

What’s on your agenda for 2015 and what are you currently working and focusing on?

I have many upcoming gigs and long tours across the world. I also have an EP to be released at the end of February on Dirtybird. It’s been ready since a while ago; I’m really looking forward to it. I will also take some time off in the studio to find new ideas for my tracks.

You live in Paris, the capital and most populous city of France. What can you tell us about clubbing and nightlife there? Do you have any nightlife related suggestions for first-time visitors?

There are some very good clubs in Paris and good promoters for this style. I’m actually playing at Zig Zag in May, which is currently one of the best in the city.

On 7th February you will perform live at KU DÉ TA Bangkok. Have you visited Thailand before? What can the Bangkok crowd expect of your upcoming performance?

It will be my first time in Thailand; I can’t wait to be there. I’ve already heard about this club, they say it’s incredible. Bangkok should get ready to scream and dance all night. I’ll share all my passion and energy with the Thai crowd.
