Exclusive Interview with Bingo Players
Hailing from The Netherlands, Paul Baümer & Maarten Hoogstraten have fused their musical talents into the massive electronic dance duo Bingo Players. The two dutch DJs have created an international reputation through epic releases and a massive touring schedule. Bingo Players kicked off 2013 scoring a worldwide top ten hit with their single Get Up (Rattle), which was a number one single in the UK two weeks in a row. This success came after the original version of Rattle shook up European charts for nine weeks during 2012. Bingo Players are not new to charting success. Early on, Paul & Maarten lit up the Beatport charts with a horde of huge tracks including the 2011 hit Cry (Just A Little) and most recently with Out Of My Mind. Along with their recording success, Bingo Players have over 30 worldwide music festivals under their belts including Tomorrowland and Stereosonic. They've performed at key US festivals including Ultra, Electric Zoo and a primetime slot at Electric Daisy Carnival: Vegas.
Siam2nite had the opportunity to have an exclusive interview with Bingo Players, shortly before their performance at 808 Festival at BITEC Bangna on 9th December.
You are both from the Netherlands and met in the mid-1990s. How did you meet, what made you team up and how did you get in touch with electronic dance music in the first place?
Paul and I met through friends many years ago, sometime in the mid 90's. One day I heard him making music on his old Amiga, this was around the same time I was experimenting with producing on my PC. We started to exchange ideas and everything developed from there.
You are known for hard-hitting Electro House. How would you describe your own music in just a few words?
Always different.
This year you entered the DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJ on rank #52. What did the ranking mean to you and how did you celebrate it?
We are always flattered when we are recognized in DJ polls, especially the DJ Mag Top 100, however we try not to pay too much attention to those kinds of things, we mainly just keep our heads down and keep working.
You kicked off 2013 scoring a worldwide top ten hit with your single Get Up (Rattle), which was a number one single in the UK two weeks in a row! Besides that track - out of all tracks you have produced - which would you recommend to someone that is not yet familiar with your music?
All of our tracks sound different so that is a tough question. Check out our most recent single "Buzzcut”.
This year you played at over 30 worldwide music festivals, including Stereosonic, Ultra, Electric Zoo and EDC Las Vegas. What were your highlights and most memorable moments of 2013?
There were a lot of memorable performance moments in 2013 but one particular highlight was performing Main Stage at Ultra.
What are you currently working and focusing on?
We are always working on new music.
You travel a lot. What are the essential things you need to have with you at all times and what are the things you miss when you are on tour?
Video games, movies and laptops for LONG flights.
On 9th December you will play here in Bangkok at the 808 Festival – alongside Bassjackers, Chuckie and Steve Aoki. What can Bangkok expect of your upcoming performance?
Bangkok can expect a show full of energy! Really excited to be coming to Bangkok!
