Exclusive Interview with Futuristic Polar Bears

Exclusive Interview with Futuristic Polar Bears

The Futuristic Polar Bears track "Back To Earth" was played by Hardwell at Tomorrowland 2014 and has put them on the map of the electronic dance music scene, in the same year they released "Tomorrow is Now" and "Thundergod", which was ranked #34 in the US Billboard charts. Expect a night of House, Electro- & Progressive House.

Siam2nite had the opportunity to have an exclusive interview with Futuristic Polar Bears, shortly before their performance at Levels Bangkok on 30th April.

You are a DJ & Production trio from the UK and emerged into the conscious of the international dance music scene when Hardwell name-dropped you and played your track "Back To Earth" at Tomorrowland 2014. Before “Back To Earth” came "Thundergod" – the track was ranked #34 in the US Billboard charts. What other tracks, remixes or mix sets would you recommend as an introduction for someone that is not yet familiar with your sound?

We’ve never pigeonholed ourselves into one set style and a few years ago we actually released some more housey stuff. Our first official release was for Erick Morillo’s Subliminal Records with a track called “Freakin” alongside Jason Herd – we were really proud of this track and every now and then still play it. Back in 2012 we also did a remix collaboration with Fatboy Slim of his own track ‘Get Naked’ which was a great success for us in the UK and abroad. Alongside our tougher “REVEALED SOUND” we still like to put out quality house tracks with a mainroom vibe and last year we teamed up with our UK brother Danny Howard from BBC Radio 1 for two tracks that we released on Spinnin called Romani and Vargo. We’re actually working on our third track with him right now that we’ll no doubt be dropping at Levels on the 30th April, so keep an eye out for that!

You play and produce House, Electro House & Progressive House. How would you describe your own music in a few words?

“Mainroom thump with a bouncy groove” is how we’d describe our sound when we play. We love playing for 2 hours because it gives us the chance to play everything from tough progressive house right through to some bouncy tech house. We usually start groovier and work the crowd up into a frenzy.

Looking back on a highly successful and eventful 2014, what were the most memorable & the most terrible gigs you played and what were the funniest things ever occurring during your performances?

2014 was an incredible year and we were lucky to play at some of the best festivals and clubs in the world. A few that stand out include Creamfields and Mint Festival in the UK whilst abroad we loved our debut US shows in LA and at Marquee in Las Vegas, Ushuaia in Ibiza as well as our Asian tours. The funniest things we had happen to us last year has to include getting covered in paint whilst playing the Life In Color shows in the states, and somebody in Philadelphia wanted to throw $1000 into the crowd whilst we were playing! It was quite funny watching people scramble for the $1 bills at the front of the stage whilst we were playing, can’t imagine we’ll experience that again!

What are you currently working and focusing on?

We’re working on a ton of new music at the minute including some really exciting collabs alongside Sultan + Ned, Henry Fong, Dzeko & Torres, Kill The Buzz and Lucky Date. Keep a look out for those because they’ll be dropping very soon :)

You made your Thailand Debut at Levels in July 2014. On 30th April you will return to Bangkok to perform at Levels once again. Did you keep your Thailand Debut – and Thailand in general – in good memory? What can the Bangkok crowd expect of your upcoming performance?

We love coming to Bangkok, the energy and crowd at Levels is amazing right through to all the staff and the promoters at the club - everyone there has an incredible passion for dance music. Expect plenty of energy from our performance and a ton of new music that’ll be showcasing especially for this tour. We can’t wait!
