Exclusive Interview with STINKAHBELL

Exclusive Interview with STINKAHBELL

With regular support from the likes of Diplo, Annie Mac, Zane Lowe, Skream & Beng and numerous others, the fantastically named STINKAHBELL is poised to become one of the biggest names in UK bass in 2013. His newer sounds merges together all kinds of progressive bass music with other genres to create an insatiable next level of production and dance-floor reaction.

Siam2nite had the opportunity to have an exclusive interview with STINKAHBELL, shortly before his performance at Q Bar on Sunday 21st April.

You are a fresh new talent in the Dubstep scene. Please introduce yourself real quick for those that don’t know you yet.

Haha! Thanks, I don't really like a fresh talent but anyone that doesn't know me. Im Nutty P, Stinkahbell use to be a group but now it's just me, if that makes sense?

How did you get in touch with bass music – and particularly Dubstep - in the first place?

I guess I'd always been into bass music, I'd been going to drum and bass and UKG raves since I was like 12 but I didn't start making the stuff till 2008.

When did you start to DJ and produce and what made you start?

I guess I'd always tried to get into djin. I had these shitty cd mixers but you couldn't really cue, and the pitch was dodgy. I put my energy into producing which I kind of stumbled upon when I was in school. I had to make a track for the end of year leaving thing, and the track came out surprisingly well! So I made a go of it.

How would you describe your music in just a few words?

That's a hard one. I try to leave my music to be interrupted by whoever hears it, I guess if I'd never heard of me I'd say its energetic, melodic, sexy, multi dimensional haha joking.

Your track “Switch Up The Gears” is about to reach 120,000 views on YouTube. Which other tracks of yours would you recommend to someone that is not yet familiar with your music?

I'd say check out Film Noir, Something in your eyes, They the bait ones, but I'd also say check out the Wiley - Can you hear me bootleg, and watch out for the new one 'Seduction Games'!

What was the best and the worst gig you ever played?

I don't know if there's been a best gig, but I've got a few memorable a ones. When me and Jakes went b2b at Goonie Island, that was insane!! And when I played with Plastician at Cable, it was just such a comfortable vibe. I love that. One of the worst gigs for me easily was a gig I played [when that Jan girl was still hosting for me] in Bruge. I got far too drunk before the gig and fell off stage when I finished. Wasn't a pleasant experience.

What was the funniest thing ever occurred during any of your performances?

Funniest thing I'd say was when we was playing a Halloween party once in Liverpool. It's always a laugh looking up from the mixer and seeing like Sadam Hussen dancing next to beetlejuice while Barack Obama necks shots and has a gun finger in the air hahaha!

Are you adventurous if it comes to food? Do you try the local dishes of the countries you travel to, or do you usually eat what you know from home? Will you give spicy Thai food a chance?

Yeah man, I'm one of them type of people that wants to fully experience where I am. It's not like I can try what's out here in the ends. Sometimes I do like to try what I'm familiar with, just to see how it varies from homes version haha. But ill definitely give the spicy Thai food a try, even though I'm a bit of a wimp for spice haha

On Sunday 21st April you will perform Live at Q Bar here in Bangkok. Will it be your Bangkok debut? Have you been to Thailand before? What can Bangkok expect from your performance?

It will be my first time DJing in Bangkok and I can't wait! I'm going to play a variety of sounds, I'm gonna mix it up over the course of the night, ill be alternating between mainstream club bangers, like Rihanna and A$AP Rocky, then later take it heavier with the likes of Skream, not to mention a healthy dollop of Stinkahbell cuts! Gonna have a few surprises in there too!
