An anniversary is a special event for all of us as it serves as a reminder of the most joyful moments in life and a celebration of happiness those moments bring. The 5th year anniversary party we all call “808 Festival 2017” is no exception.

It was an epic anniversary party, to say the least where party people from around the globe and world-class DJs of all kinds joining forces to create a memorable 2-day festivity inside the captivating atmosphere of Show DC Oasis Arena between 9-10 December 2017. It was an experience of a lifetime for those who were there, and a huge missed opportunity for those who couldn’t make it. Those of you who want to relive the epicness of it all, here are is a recap of what went down at 808 Festival 2017.

New Location, Same Energy

For the 5th edition of 808 Festival, the organizers decided to come back to Bangkok, but at a brand new location that was just perfect for the occasion. Show DC Oasis Arena is a spacious outdoor event space that features a beautiful backdrop of the brand new Show DC shopping mall and the city lights from the buildings in Bangkok’s Rama 9 district. Parking was plenty, and the facilities were one of the better ones we have seen at a festival. We had no issue walking through the crowd of people to explore the two stages or getting to the bathroom that had no wait line and was clean as a whistle.

The setting is undoubtedly different from 2016, but what remains the same is the atmosphere that was electric since the moment the doors open until the last light is shut down. The supersize screen and the sound system worked so brilliantly you were able to see the lights from miles away and hear every beat drop from way back on the rooftop of Show DC. The crowd was on fire, and the energy in the air was unreal.

The World in One Place

Flags are such a big part of EDM culture that it is most likely you will catch a sight of one the moment you step into the grounds, and 808 Festival is no different. There were flags with names of local EDM crews as a signal to their friends where they were and to show the people that they were part of this epic event as well. Then there were flags from different countries around the world like Korea, Japan, Myanmar, Taiwan, Spain, you name it.

808 Festival doesn’t just unite the music lovers of Thailand, but it also draws the crowd from countries all over the world to come over and unite as one. It was clear that a good amount of the audience wasn’t Thai, but everyone enjoyed the party and each other’s company. It was beautiful.

An Artist Line-up of a Lifetime

Over the course of two days, 26 DJs hauling in from all parts of the globe took turns setting fire to the 2 full-scale stages for the highly energetic crowd. The “Main Stage” hosted a diverse list of music genres that kept the party-goers dancing all night long. People got real low and couldn’t stop twerking to the boiling tracks of Trap gods like Flosstradamus and Ghastly. The energy level spiked through the roof as the music of Trance masters Vini Vici and Above & Beyond. There just wasn’t enough neck brace to go around when hard-hitting Hard-Style DJs like Kayzo and Coone took the stage, and everyone sang their lungs out to the popular House tracks of Gryffin, Axwell, and DVBBS. Finally, it was Timmy Trumpet who ended the 2nd night with a bang with his signature live trumpet solos.

Let us also not forget the “Techno Stage” just right next door that saw big name Techno maestros like Sam Paganini, Amelie Lens, and ANOTR hypnotizing the crowd with deep and energetic sounds throughout the nights. Those who wandered to the Techno zone at any part of the party would’ve noticed that everyone, sitting, swaying, or just putting on the best dance moves of their lives, was having a really good time.

Party People United

What’s special about 808 Festival is that it attracts the type of people you’d love to party with. Some decided to go all-out on the costumes and came together on a theme that any photographer just couldn’t walk by without snapping one. Some walked through the entrance with their very own EDM crew, waving their flags with pride and raging with energy. There was even someone on crutches that just ignored all precautions and danced the night away just like everyone else.

You do feel like a part of something big as you find your place in the sea of gorgeous people that are all united by the love for music. For those of you who made new friends during the two-day span, be sure to keep in contact because this will surely not be the last time you guys will meet.
