Since they launched hip-hop into fame 15-20 years ago, first-generation pioneers like TKO, Joey Boy, J Jetrin, Thaitanium, Dajim have become household names for Thai music lovers.

But interest in hip-hop has recently been renewed by attempts to make the genre more mainstream, especially in the last five years. Rap contests by various organizers introduce countless new talents to the Thai music industry.

That’s how us listeners have a wide selection of great tracks.

We believe 2019 will be Thai hip-hop’s greatest year yet. We’re only two months into this year, and three fantastic hip-hop festivals have already popped up. Get ready to party and bounce to dem beats.

Let’s find out which hip-hop festival can grab your attention!

VOLO Festival

VOLO Festival is an attractive choice if you’re looking for a party with great shows for the upcoming Songkran. This pirate-themed hip-hop festival will happen at Vana Nava Hua Hin water park in Prajuab Khiri Khan.

Expect a treasure trove of tunes by international artists on the weekend of April 13-14!

The first headliner that’ll bring you to the event is ASAP Rocky from the ASAP Mob team. Whether you’re a fan of Thai or international hip-hop, you’ll definitely recognize hits like “Praise The Lord”, “F**kin’ Problems”, and “L$D”.

Each of these tracks has gained over 100 million views on YouTube.

Get ready to meet Thailand’s most influential rappers. Daboyway, Mindset & Double P, Youngohm, Fiixd, Younggu, Diamond, Youngbong, and Gavin D; these are the names behind the local hip-hop’s rising tides. Expect to dance to their energy-packed acts throughout the weekend.

Other amenities include a food truck zone from famous vendors; a fashion zone where you can browse for trinkets; and transformation stations. Become a hip-hop pirate and parrr-ty the night away, mateys!

Join this Songkran hip-hop festival at Vana Nava water park now. Early bird tickets cost 1,500 THB, with a two-day pass and unrestricted access to the water park. Ticket sales start this March 3 (Sun) on Volofestival.

Thailand Hiphop Festival 2019

Thailand Hiphop Festival brings Thai hip-hop trailblazers and up-and-coming talents together; they’re pumping up the volume for the local hip-hop scene. The event is coming back with its second installment on June 8 (Sat) at JJ Mall, the same venue as last year.

They’re staying true to last year’s theme, the four elements of hip-hop: Graffiti, B-Boy, MC & DJ, and Rapper.

Various artists will give you an electrifying night of hip-hop in quantity and quality. At the time of writing, the latest official lineup includes Twopee, Fucking Hero, Rastafa4e, D Gerrard, VKL & Sweed Gang, JSR, PP’ Dreams, Naina, Tossakan, J7 (Bronx.NYC),

OG-Anic x Lazyloxzy, Blacksheep x U-Rius x Maiyarap, P9D x Ozeeoos x Damnsweet x Repaze x Halibavg x Biggest, Youngohm, Fiixd, Youngbong, B-King, and more. Stay updated and find out who’s joining the stage at this major event.

It’s rare to see a festival that combines different generations of artists from the same genre.

If you want to take part in driving hip-hop forward, save up and stay tuned for the ticket sales date and price. (Last year’s general admission was only 700 THB per pax!)

Purple Haze Festival Vol.1

On September 13-14, Impact Exhibition Hall 5 at Muang Thong Thani will be jam-packed with hip-hop fans. They’ll be there to see artists from three continents: America, Asia, and Europe.

Almost a dozen of artists will be sending out energy waves through Thai hip-hop scene at Purple Haze Festival Vol.1. Bounce along best hip-hop beats in a funky party setting.

Even if you’re not a die-hard hip-hop fan, you’ve surely heard “Plug Walk”, “New Freezer”, “Talk to me”, or “Lost it” at parties before.

These hits are works of the 26-year-old American artist, Rich the Kid. He’s bringing the blast to the stage along with Thailand’s top rappers such as Twopee, Fiixd, Youngohm, Younggu, and Diamond.

Also joining the event are DJ Murf of YG Entertainment, a titan among South Korean record labels, and Dynamite MC, the hyper-talented MC from the UK.

With this kind of lineup, going to this event should be a no-brainer! Hold on to your piggy banks and keep tabs on ticket sales and price via Purple Haze Fest Facebook page. You wouldn’t want to miss out!
