Smile Carnival 2017: A Charity Carnival That Brings Smiles to Children in Need

Smile Carnival 2017: A Charity Carnival That Brings Smiles to Children in Need

Since 1997, Operation Smile Thailand has been the organization behind the provision of over 12,000 free reconstructive surgeries to indigent children and young adults born with facial deformities around the country. With as little as THB 25,000 and 60 minutes, Operation Smile’s team of volunteer doctors are able to change the lives of these children who would otherwise be left with lifelong deformities. The operation allows the children to be breathing, drinking, eating, and speaking just like any child would again.

Operation Smile Thailand - The Painted Smile Campaign

Together with partnering student organizations and student community leaders, Operation Smile Thailand has held multiple events throughout the years aimed at raising awareness and funds for this cause. Since 2013, events like the Colour Miles for Smiles running marathon has been a big hit and has raised over THB 5m altogether. After 4 years of the Colour Miles for Smiles run, this year there is a new theme.

The first ever Smile Carnival will be happening on Saturday, April 1st, 2017 at the Outdoor Sport Courtyard in front of the National Stadium (BTS National Stadium station). Expect new and different activities from the Colour Miles for Smiles event but with the same goal in mind – and that is to raise as much awareness and money as possible to donate to Operation Smile Thailand to provide medical treatment for children with cleft lips and cleft palates.

The 11 hosting international schools invites everyone to come out and have a great time with your family and friends playing games, eating delicious food, enjoying drinks, and listening to live music all the while knowing that you are there for an awesome cause. As with any new event, you may not know what to expect. So, let us give you a slight hint of how the event might look like!

Carnival Themed

Think tents, stripes, cotton candy, and a lot of fun fair music because the charity circus has come to town! Starting at around 5:30pm the carnival doors will open for everyone to enjoy. If we were you, maybe even get in theme and dress up to match your surroundings – a clown costume might do the trick, but be careful they might mistake you for a performer!

Food Galore

There is a huge food station that will be packed with goodies from stalls and your favorite food trucks. We do not want to give it all away, but think of corndogs, BBQ, cheesy items, and definitely popcorn. Make sure you do not eat too much before you go because you will DEFINITELY enjoy the food at the carnival.

Fun, Fun, and more Fun!

There will be about 20 game/activity booths to keep you entertained throughout the day. The dunk bucket will surely be making an appearance as well as carnival favorites like ring toss both, rodeo rides, face painting, sumo suits, and the highlight clown maze among other things. Regardless of how old you are, there will surely be an activity for you. Not to mention, the whole time there will be live bands and DJs playing groovy music for you to carnival to!
