“Sunday morning, rain is falling…” – The Maroon 5 classic hit is the perfect backing track for a Sunday-morning-listen as you look to relax before restarting your work week on the upcoming Monday. But as you roll around in the comfort of your abode, there is always the dilemma of HOW to relax. Should you just stay in bed all day or would venturing out be a more satisfying experience for you? Let us offer some insight into our #SundayWellSpent series that will take you on an adventure in the different back alleys of Bangkok that you may have never known about before. Get ready to discover new and exciting shops and restaurants that will surely refuel you for another week in the office.

Last time we took you into Sukhumvit Soi 23 and introduced to you a selection of Thai and Western restaurants, spas, and even salons/barbers that could keep you occupied for a whole day. This time, we want to take you into an area that many would consider a hot spot for Bangkok chilling – that is in Soi Langsuan. This one-way street located right next to the Chitlom BTS is often frequented by both locals and tourists, so you know there is something for everyone.

Here are 7 places in Soi Langsuan that we recommend you spend your valuable Sundays at to nurture your soul for the battles coming up ahead (places not listed in any particular order).

Thang Long

We start with a restaurant that serves fusion Thai-Vietnamese cuisine that has a very welcoming ambience at the end of Soi Langsuan. Thang Long has been opened for the past 30 years and it is without a question one of those restaurants that after trying it for the first time, anyone would want to come back for another meal. The standout dishes include the Vietnamese Suki (THB 325), shrimp chạo tôm (THB 250), and grilled pork ribs and fried sticky rice (THB 220). The dessert menu also ensures that you can end your meal with a smile – try the lychee jelly (THB 95) which comes with tasty lychee sprinkled over a red jelly that perfectly combines sweet and sour. You can enjoy all of this in the spacious 2-floor restaurant that is decked out in wooden décor both in their indoors and outdoors seating areas.

Crepes & Co

If you are looking for a dessert place that can also cook up a mean savory dish then Crepes & Co should be your destination of choice. Whether it is the taste of the food, the ambience of the restaurant or the service by their staff Crepes & Co shows up in full. Standing in front of the restaurant you can feel the relaxing energy that the warm white building surrounded by greenery exudes. As you enter the restaurant itself, they contrast that external energy with a cool a chic feels through their décor, furniture, and orange lighting that elevates the restaurant and makes for an interesting dining experience. The menu composes of multiple Mediterranean influences. We recommend the Crepe Crumble (THB 280) a chocolate crepe served with homemade mixed berry crumbles and chocolate chip ice cream sprinkled with chocolate sauce to combine elements of sweetness with the tangy sourness of the berries.

Another restaurant located on top of The Mercury Ville is Roof 409 that is a Bar & Bistro serving European inspired cuisine as well as a large selection of drinks. Some of our favorite dishes include the Mozzarella Sticks (THB 160) and the Spaghetti AOP Bacon (THB 240) that manages to excite your taste buds with a combination of spicy and salty flavors. Pair your meal with a drink of your choice, be it coffee, juices, cider, draft beer, or an interesting cocktail, Roof 409 is bound to have it. The design of the place leans towards fusing modern and vintage pieces to create a relaxing place to sit for extended periods. Definitely, make your way out to the open-air rooftop area to enjoy your meal amidst the skyscrapers Bangkok is very famous for.

Everyone says that Bangkok is the mecca of street food. No matter where you walk you is bound to find some cart selling some form of the local delicacy. Soi Langsuan may not be as busy as famed street food areas like Yaowarat, but it does have its fair share. Find yourself a full meal, some snacks, or dessert for cheap from the beginning to the end of the street. Of course, expect full-flavored meals just like you would typically get from these food carts in dishes like fermented Esarn Sausage, spicy salads, grilled pork sticks, or fried meatballs, available along the footpath.

Soi Lungsuan has been buzzing for a very long time. Other than the places we already mentioned it is fair to say that many more things in the area are worthy of exploring.
