#SundayWellSpent: Exploring the Essentials of Soi Ari
We all enjoy spending the weekend with the ones we care about and doing what we love. After all, nothing beats a lazy Sunday after a long week of work and school. In this edition of #SundayWellSpent we’ll be taking you for a stroll down “Soi Ari”, a small area filled to the brim with hip restaurants and fascinating shops. Whether you choose to spend your entire Sunday taking it easy at a coffee shop, playing board games with your buddies, or exploring a whole new area, Soi Ari is the place to be.
We've selected for you a few places worth visiting whenever you take a stop at Ari BTS Station. The vast amount of activities will keep you occupied from day till night, giving you that perfect Sunday you've been looking for all week.
DICE is one of those places where there's everything for everyone. This 4-story building will drain your Sunday away in a heartbeat. The 1st floor is a cafe that serves a variety of delicious grubs and aromatic coffee. The 2nd floor is lined with popular board games such as The Hobbit, Tomb of Annihilation, Catan, and Colony for you to pick and have fun with a group of friends. The 3rd floor houses an arcade equipped with VR games that will surely give you an immersive gaming experience that will keep you coming back for more. Last but not least is the Co-working space on the 4th floor that comes ready with showers, personal lockers, meeting rooms, and a balcony on the rooftop with a beautiful view for your leisure.
This urban-style bike shop is located in Soi Ari 2, and it's the perfect fit for those of us who live in a city like Bangkok. Other than selling bikes and offering repair services, Tokyobike is a community for cyclists to share their experiences and offer advice to their fellow bike enthusiasts. The shop offers biking accessories from multiple top brands like leather bike seats from Brooks and sneakers from a collaboration with Moonstar. What we love about this bike shop is how we were able to test the bikes in the shops, helping us make a better decision on which bike was the best fit for us. If you're looking to get a hold of one, be sure to drop by Tokyobike this coming Sunday!
Museum of Everything Jinglebell
Walk a little further into Soi Ari 2 you'll find a hybrid between a vintage clothing store and a cafe called "Museum of Everything Jinglebell". The owner, also the designer of the fashion brands Vick's and Vickteerut, brings in the very best vintage-style fashion items to this place. You can find shoes, dresses, jackets, bags, and accessories with prices ranging from hundreds to hundred thousand lying around the shop much like a vintage clothing museum as the name says. When you feel like taking a break from looking around, you can take a seat and order up a few refreshments to recharge. We recommend the Tea Set For 1 (260 THB) that includes three special recipes Magic Moon Cakes and a choice of Earl Grey, English Breakfast, or Oolong tea. If you're not full then, the Dark Beer Cake (150 THB) and the Fruit Tart (150 THB) is worth a try as well.
FabCafe located in Soi Ari 1 is more than just a cafe. Ever since its opening back in 2015, the venue had provided a creative space for a community of inventors to work in. They've definitely taken things to another level by making a laser cutter, 3D scanner, 3D printer, and even a sewing machine available for rent on an hourly basis. They've also got a private multi-purpose space equipped with a projector, a sound system, and a whiteboard for rent as well. If you're not very much into craftsmanship, but want to give it a shot, FabCafe offers multiple workshops from time to time. Not a bad option for a Sunday class.
There's probably no better way to relieve the stress from a whole week of work than to treat yourself to a few relaxing hours at a spa. Calm Spa located in Soi Ari 4 (North Side) just recently opened up in May 2016, but has already become a local's favorite. They offer a wide variety of spa treatments including Thai massage, aromatherapy, body scrub, and facial treatments from a team of well-trained professionals with the price ranging from 700-5,000 THB. If you're impressed with any of the products used in the treatments, you can even buy them home from the spa shop. They've got a whole line of skincare products including body lotion, hand cream, body wash, body scrub, and massaging oil.
Flower in Hand by P.
Some people would say that flower arrangement is a form of relaxation, and "Flower in Hand by P" offers this unique experience. This adorably decorated flower shop offers more than just flower arrangements and bouquets. You can definitely spend your Sundays at this place taking a few lessons on flower arrangements. You can try your hand at their "Flower kit" in making your own garland or attend a floral workshop and learn a few techniques in making a beautiful bouquet. If you're a cafe hopper, this place is also definitely worth a stop. They offer menu items with a unique floral twist such as the Dream of roses (95 THB), a hot tea made from roses and fruits. The cookies (30 THB) and Financiers (40 THB) also taste as beautiful as they appear, so if you drop by be sure to grab some of them home for your friends and family!
One of the latest addition to the ever-growing list of shops in Ari is Hello Summer, an ice-cream parlor located in front of Josh Hotel in Soi Ari 4. As of February 2018, this red and blue colored shop had been serving creamy soft-serve treats for passersby to fight off the Bangkok summer heat. The Classic Soft Serve (89 THB) comes in 2 flavors called "White Sand" (creamy milk) and Flamingo (strawberry yogurt). The Signature Milk Shake (150 THB) is also worth a try!
Located in Soi Ari 2 is Gloc, a multi-brand store that handpicks only the best quality products both locally and internationally. You'll find almost anything including clothes, accessories, stationery, home decor, and cosmetics, some of which you can only find at this place. We're sure you'll fall in love with the interior and the attention to detail the owners had put into arranging the shop that'll make you forget how little the store is. Prices are also pretty reasonable, ranging from tens to thousands. No matter who you are, if you happen to drop by this place to have a look, you'll definitely find something to take home.
This home-style cafe and restaurant is nestled just a few meters into Soi Ari 5, just look out for a small house covered with greenery all around. As you walk in through the door of the Poet House, you’ll be welcomed by a cozy white decor and the smell of mouth-watering home-style cooking. All the food and dessert here are made fresh every day for you to enjoy. Poet House also offers a whole of interesting workshops during the weekend like Punch Needle, Hand Stitch, Watercolor, Calligraphy, Ceramic, and Colored Pencil.
If you’re a fan of craft beers, then Taproom is the place to be on a relaxing Sunday. Inside Soi Ari 1 across from Casa Lapin, you’ll find a beer house with up to 14 types of beer on tap. The selection rotates every day, so this is your chance to explore and taste new beers you might never have before. Whether you like Hefeweizen, Pilsner, Black Lager, Extra Strong Bitter, Witbier, or Porter, Taproom is ready to serve them to you. If you want to try more than one type of beer but don’t want to down a whole pint each time, you can order the “Beer Fight” (926 THB) where you can select up to 6 types of beers that will come in mini-glasses coupled with a detailed description for each. If you’re hungry, we recommend the Shrimp in Tropical Forest (270 THB), deep-fried premium sized shrimps dressed with Taproom’s secret recipe sauce, the Belly Dance (160 THB), crispy pork-belly with Esarn-style sauce, and the Ho+ Sausages (270 THB) that is highly recommended by both the visitors and owners.
If you love to wine and dine then Cantina Wine Bar & Italian Kitchen is the perfect spot for you. This cozy restaurant is located at the beginning of Soi Ari 3 and serves up homemade Italian cooking paired with a vast selection of international wine. Inside, you’ll over a hundred types of wine from all over the world including Italy, Slovenia, Chile, Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, and France all tucked within the comfort of an original Italian restaurant. The open kitchen on both the 1st and 2nd floor serves up traditional Italian recipes like the Mascarpone E Tartufo Pizza (520 THB) that is filled with layers of Truffle, Cheeses, and Ham and the Fettuccine Cantina Risotto (390 THB) made from Shiitake and Porcini mushrooms cooked with a dash of black Truffle sauce. Pair all that up with a glass of good wine and that the perfect ending to your perfect Sunday.
A familiar name in Bangkok’s beer scene also has a branch on the 2nd floor of Aree Garden. Namely, the “House of Beers”, HOBS is well known for having a wide variety of international beers on tap. Just like the other spots in Thonglor, Nawamin, Rama 3, Central World Plaza, La Villa Ari, Rainhill, Hua Hin, and Khonkaen, HOBS Ari also provides us with an option of good food to go with the great beer selection such as the Smoked Salmon Salad (320 บาท), Pork Knuckle (480 บาท), and the Belgian Fires (200 THB) that comes with up to 6 dips. Why not take it easy on a Sunday evening at a breezy balcony with your favorite pint of beer before heading back to work on Monday?
Even though A-One Ari is closed every Sunday, we'd still recommend you to visit if you have a chance. The venue is complete with restaurants, cafes, and shops segmented into 3 zones. The Food Gallery inner zone is a 2-floor food-court lined with a multiple restaurants of all kinds. The Urban Street zone is also filled with food and desserts for yoir selection. Last but not least, the outer "Building Shop" zone is a 4-story building that, other than restaurants and cafes, has a massage parlor that opens on Sundays. You can find live music every Saturday starting from noon till late as well!
As you can see, Soi Ari is the perfect place for everyone to take time off from the chaos of everyday life. Spend your morning sipping on cup of your favorite coffee blend, attend a workshop and learn something new during the day, then treat yourself with a nice portion of homemade cooking paired with a glass of wine in the evening. A perfect Sunday doesn’t have to be spent just within the comfort of your home. Take a stroll down Soi Ari this coming weekend and you’ll see why it had became one of the top weekend destinations for Thai people.
