How Vertical Miles for Smiles 2019 Rewards You for Giving Back

Cleft lip and cleft palate are congenital anomalies found in 1 out of every 700 babies. They can affect the child’s hearing, breathing, and speech development.

The cause of cleft lip and cleft palate remains elusive to this day. (There are some speculations involving genetic and environmental factors.) Still, most cases of children with such conditions are easily treatable.

Luckily, you’ll soon get a chance to help those less fortunate children. Vertical Miles for Smiles 2019 lets you become a part of an effort to put a smile on their faces.

This fundraising charity run is taking place at Fortune Town this March 31 (Sun) between 03.00-08.00. Proceedings will be donated to Operation Smile Thailand to cover operation costs for Thai children with cleft lip and/or cleft palate.

Still not sure whether you should sign up for this Bangkok marathon? Here are three things you’ll get to do by giving back at Vertical Miles for Smiles 2019.

Give children a chance at a healthy and happy life

Each year, around 2,000 babies are born with cleft lip and/or cleft palate. Their lives can be changed forever with a simple surgery. The procedure only takes about 45 minutes but could cost a whopping 25,000-200,000 THB.

100% of the 600 THB registration fees for Vertical Miles for Smiles 2019 will be donated to Operation Smile Thailand. The organization provides free surgeries for Thai families in need. (Runners will receive a wristband, a drawstring bag, a medal, and a race bib.)

You can take part in changing these children’s lives for the better. Together, we can give them a chance to live a healthy life; free to breathe, speak, eat, or drink without any difficulties and potential psychological issues.

Experience a ‘Vertical Marathon’

If you’re used to average, on-the-ground marathons, this ‘Vertical Marathon’ can offer a challenge and open up a whole new world for you. At Vertical Miles for Smiles 2019, you’ll be running up the stairs of the parking lot at Fortune Town - 10 floors, 5.7 km in total.

As you reach the finish line on the rooftop, you’ll find exciting games and activities waiting. Fill up on tasty food and drinks from various booths, and don’t forget to stay for the award ceremony. These highlights will whisk you exhaustion away.

Feel a sense of pride and achievement

Vertical Miles for Smiles 2019 kills two birds with one stone. First, it’s an opportunity to give back directly - to give the children a chance and put a smile on their faces.

Second, racing through the finish line will feel like a personal victory. After all, pushing past your limits to beat the distance is no small feat. This kind of pride can only come from what you achieve on your own.

After this event, you’ll definitely bring some inspirations home along with your medal.

Ready your running shoes, get set, and let’s go give these kids a fair start!
