The Elektro Delikatessen crew and WAX team up to bring German Techno & Tech House DJ FLORIAN MEINDL to Bangkok. He is only 24 years old, but already head of his own record label FLASH Recordings, writes articles about music production in magazines like “FutureMusic” and has produced remixes for Röyksopp and Hot Chip. and Expect cutting-edge dance music straight from Berlin.

Siam2nite had the opportunity to have an exclusive interview with Florian Meindl, shortly before his performance at WAX on 21st March.

You are an Austrian DJ & Producer and the head of the FLASH Recordings record label. How did you get in touch with electronic dance music in the first place and how did you get into DJing and music production?

When I was 12 years old I heard House music on a weekend evening in the radio and recorded it to tape and listened to it over and over again - I really loved it and shared it with my friends, I liked the aspect of bringing good music to my friends! Then I decided to mix my own tapes and bought a DJ-Mixer and turntables - soon I was a local DJ around Linz in Austria and also started to produce music on a PC. I learned everything on my own through books and with a little bit of internet research. That was in the age of 17, my first release was 3 years after and mayne EPs on vinyl followed, mainly on Trapez records which was one of the most popular Techno / Minimal labels at that time!

What tracks, remixes or mix-sets would you recommend to someone that is not yet familiar with your music?

The DJ-Mix player with almost all of my recorded DJ-Mixes inside which you can find here and my tracks which are all available on Beatport.

What’s on your agenda for 2015 and what are you currently working and focusing on?

I will release my second artist album at the beginning of may! Here you can have a preview-listen: Florian Meindl - COLLIDE. There will also be further releases on my Loops label Riemann Kollektion :: Beatport Sounds from Phil Kieran and Leghau!

What were the most memorable and the worst gigs you ever played and what was the funniest thing ever occurred during any of your performances?

The worst thing was when I played in Milano in a large warehouse with 2000 people and somebody fired up a powder-fire-extinguisher and when the powder came down everybody panicked and ran out - so in 1 minute the whole hall was completely empty and everything was full of fine dust!

You live in Germany’s capital Berlin. What can you tell us about clubbing and nightlife there?

There are many good locations and of course also many bad locations but you can always find something suitable every day! I would recommend going to Berghain, Tresor or Arena Club for proper Techno!

On 21st March you will perform live here in Bangkok at WAX. Have you visited Thailand before?

Yes I'm looking forward I have never been to Thailand! But I eat thai food every week here in Berlin ;-) I'm very curious about everything, especially the food and I will also make a short vacation at the beach there!

What can the Bangkok crowd expect of your upcoming performance?

I will def. play many unreleased tracks from my label FLASH Recordings and also from my upcoming album COLLIDE so it will be very exclusive!
