[Recap] Don’t Let Daddy Know Thailand: A Visuals Galore

On Sunday 12 February, 2017 Asiatique played host to Don’t Let Daddy Know Thailand (DLDK) for the very first time and although many people did not know what to expect from the new comer festival, for those who attended there is a high chance you came out smiling.

The Dutch festival organizers partnered with local powerhouse ZAAP to erect what was a glorious festival venue alongside the River of Kings, making it another festival with a view. The likes of Steve Angello, Nicky Romero, Nervo, and R3hab to name a few truly brought their A-game. And with the Bangkok weather being perfect, there were not many things to complain about. Take it from us, here are some of the highlights we know those who went will remember and those who missed out on the event will surely want to see next year.

Ever wondered why LED screens always come in weird shapes that make it hard for the crowd to properly see the graphics? Well, not at DLDK! Instead, DLDK delighted with 14 huge rectangular LED screens. The visuals that were played came across in its entirety and for the first time in a very long time it was easy to sing along with the words that popped up on screen. This really made the colors of the stage pop.

Thais can do anything we put our minds to, right? The quality of our locally-grown-festivals have been increasing year in year out and there is no doubt that given the time and the resources, our festivals can be shipped abroad too. But one thing was clear, the Dutch team that was imported to assist with the organization of DLDK made a huge difference to the organization of the whole event in general. Lines were short as service for entry was made easy. Drinks were quickly served which made the festival experience super enjoyable. There were enough toilets that long lines did not form. Phone charging stations were also provided.

If you think about it, these little details may not be what the festival is about, but they are things that allow you to forget about the small problems and really focus on dancing your night away. We were definitely fans, and with a management team like this backing DLDK it is without a doubt that next year there will be more good times to come.

Flares in your face, lazers here, smoke screens there, lights on, fireworks ready. It was quite something – definitely a feast for the eyes. The ability to make magic from a combination of these effects is truly an art which the team at DLDK managed with ease. We have been to a lot of events and we can say that the effects were first class especially the firework show which is way up there with the best of the best. There was variety, there was quantity, and there was quality – basically the complete package. It was the perfect way to announce their arrival to Thailand’s festival line-up. The best thing about all these effects was that it made for awesome photographs. For those of you who managed to capture the ending show fireworks in the background of your photos, you know what we are talking about!

The red, white, and blue stage build-up perfectly feels right at home as the colors resonated well with Thais. Regardless that it was a coincidence, you cannot help but enjoy seeing the color of our flag flashing all night and flying on the big screen. This truly ignited a sense of belonging.

All in all, DLDK delivered what it promised. We can now safely say that when the event comes back again next year, there is bound to be people waiting in line for tickets once again. Imagine that – it will definitely be a hard secret to keep from your daddy then! For all the updates make sure you follow the official Don’t Let Daddy Know Facebook page.
