The 23 Best Tattoo Studios To Get Inked At In Bangkok
For centuries, Thai warriors were tattooed before battle to protect them from their enemies, and sacred tattoos (Sak Yant) are an inherent part of Thai culture.
One of the most famous temples known for those sacred tattoos given by monks, using a single long thin needle, is Wat Bang Phra in Nakhon Chai Si District (Nakhon Pathom).
However, Thailand's tattoo landscape is not limited to traditional tattooing. In fact, there is a multitude of modern tattoo studios with highly talented and experienced artists, working on state-of-the-art equipment.
In case getting inked in Bangkok is on top of your list, then consult the list below, which rounds up, in no particular order, the 23 Best Tattoo Studios to get inked at in Bangkok.
Bangkok Ink Tattoo Studio
Ask for tattoo parlors that specializes in Thai traditional or Sak Yant tattoos, and Bangkok Ink Tattoo Studio is likely among the top choices. Located in Soi Sukhumvit 33, the downtown studio brings a Samnak Sak Yant (“sacred house of Yantra”) to the heart of Bangkok.
Bangkok Ink’s interior resembles a modest Samnak Sak Yant with its open layout and tranquil ambiance. The studio has been established for over a decade and is kept very neat and clean.
The venue has housed sessions by Thailand’s top tattoo artists from all sorts of style. This also includes Sak Yant grandmasters such as Ajarn Noo Kanpai, Ajarn Ohr Bothong, and Phra Ajarn Pum of Wat Sala Daeng. Each of them is a well-known name among Thai ‘Metta Mahaniyom’ (“benevolence charm”) tattoo enthusiasts.
Four artists reside at Bangkok Ink Tattoo Studio. Two of them still practice the art of traditional hand poke tattoos, also known as ‘Bamboo Hand Poke Style’.
Ajarn Aut and Ajarn Sak (who’s from the same Samnak as Ajarn Ohr) have over 35 years of Sak Yant experience. They’re experts when it comes to sigils and Yantras, and can ‘activate’ tattoos with the proper chants and spells.
Rest assured; your tattoo will be beautifully designed and has crisp, clear lines and (if you so choose) powerful blessings.
The other two artists are skilled with modern machine styles like mandala, black & grey, American traditional, cover-up, and minimal. With over 15 years of experience between the both of them, they can provide non-blessed versions of Yantra tattoos, freehand pieces, tattoo designs, tattoo corrections, and scar cover-ups.
Inks and other equipment used by the studio are exclusively imported from the US, so you can trust that the tattoo quality will turn out great.
Also, as Bangkok Ink was able to meet the same hygiene and cleanliness standards as hospitals, it has received an Operation License for Health Hazardous Businesses from the official organization.
Suffice to say, Bangkok Ink is a tattoo studio that encompasses a wide range of services. Other than master-level tattoos, the venue also offers piercings on ears, tongues, belly buttons, and more; all operated by Australian-certified professionals.
The studio also welcomes renowned international tattoo artists every year. In turn, Bangkok Ink’s Sak Yant masters travel the world to showcase this traditional Thai art. Previous destinations include the UK, the USA, Sweden, Australia, and the Netherland, and major festivals such as the London Tattoo Convention.
The Yantra tattoo represents both the spiritual and aesthetic aspects of the Thai cultural heritage.
Whether you want a traditional Thai tattoo experience or just stunning inks to show off, you won’t be disappointed either way. Bangkok Ink always welcomes walk-in clients, but advanced booking is highly recommended.
Rates start from 1,500 THB (machine tattoos) and 2,500 THB (hand poke tattoos). Full-back and freehand pieces are charged by the hour, starting from 3,000 THB / hr. (machine tattoo) and 5,000 THB / hr. (hand poke).
To get inked by the three grandmasters - Ajarn Nuu, Ajarn Ohr, and Phra Ajarn Pum - you’re required to make an appointment. Rates start from 6,000 THB (excluding other services). Bangkok Ink can provide transportation and an interpreter for foreign clients to help them voice their wishes.
California Ink Tattoo Bangkok
Located about 230 meters from the entrance of Soi Sukhumvit 4 in Nana, California Ink Tattoo Bangkok offers a wide range of tattoo services by experienced artists. It’s one of the leading studios in Bangkok in terms of expertise, cleanliness, and standard.
Whether you’re dying to get your first tattoo, or just looking for introductory advice from a studio of experts, California Ink can help you with both.
The venue opened over a year ago but has recently changed its name. With its crew creating all kinds of gorgeous designs, the studio provides its services in two locations: Bangkok and Phuket.
Currently, the Nana shop works with a dozen skilled tattoo artists, whose experience in the craft ranges from three to 30 years. Three of them, who work mostly on Japanese, Polynesian, realism, and blackwork pieces, even won the first prizes from Singapore Ink Show 2019, Thailand Tattoo Expo 2019, as well as Malaysia Tattoo Expo 2019 for Realism Portraits.
Generally, though, you can trust all artists at California Ink to bring intricate and striking designs to life. Their styles include, but not limited to, Japanese, Polynesian, realism, blackwork, old school, new school, portraits, Chicano, traditional, watercolour, and tribal. The studio also takes on cover-up projects and tattoo corrections.
When it comes to tattoos, hygiene is a crucial issue, and California Ink takes this to heart. The studio strictly follows the Workplace Health & Safety Standards of America (WHS) and OHS guidelines set by the Professional Tattoo Association of America.
All equipment, as well as inks, come from top US brands and are directly imported from the states.
Getting a tattoo, in most cases, is a lifelong commitment. So why not choose the best right from the start? We think California Ink is an excellent choice, but you can decide for yourself and get a walk-in consult session. The venue is open daily between 09.00 - 02.00, even on national holidays.
If you’ve set your sights on getting unique and incredibly detailed designs done, you can book a session or just walk right in. California Ink’s rates start at 2,000 THB. However, there’s no hourly rate, as prices are calculated based on the size and difficulty of the piece.
ALL DAY Tattoo
If you ask tattoo lovers to name Bangkok’s best tattoo studios at the moment, ALL DAY Tattoo would definitely be on the list. And why not? Considering the experience, work quality, and excellent service of the studio’s staff, it should be no surprise. In fact, those looking to get inked often come back for the service alone.
By traveling to famous studios around the world, the studio’s founder, Luca, was able to learn from the most talented tattoo artists. From that experience, he realized that there aren’t many parlors that offer high-quality tattoos and five-star service in Bangkok.
So now, four years after ALL DAY Tattoo first opened its doors in 2016, the studio is intent on introducing the best tattoo experience possible to everyone.
ALL DAY Tattoo works with over 14 artists, each of them an award-winning expert with plenty of experience. They offer a wide range of styles, from traditional Thai Sak Yant, popular Thai designs, old school, tribal, realistic, geometric/mandala, watercolor, Japanese, black & grey/blackwork, to minimalist.
The studio also accepts tattoo touch-up or cover-up projects.
Getting inked for the first time or still unsure? The studio is more than happy to provide consultation. It also offers fully customized artwork if you haven’t got a specific design in mind, so you can be sure you’re getting a tattoo that you’ll love.
We think foreign customers will appreciate the fact that the staff at ALL DAY Tattoo can speak fluent English. There’ll be no problems voicing your wishes, which kicks the service level up a notch.
Hygiene is something ALL DAY Tattoo cares deeply about. The inks and needles are entirely imported from the US, made by brands that receive the proper certifications from the Food and Drug Administration.
The studio also follows the same standards as hospitals and has been given Operation License for Health Hazardous Businesses from the Ministry of Health.
It’s true; you can find tattoo parlors on every other street in Bangkok. However, not many of them can provide the expertise, quality, standard, and 5-star service ALL DAY Tattoo does. That’s why we think it’s one of the top choices.
For one-of-a-kind tattoos that’ll be absolutely stunning and something you can proudly show off, check out ALL DAY Tattoo. The studio welcomes walk-in customers, but it’s always better to make a reservation.
ALL DAY Tattoo is open daily between 12.00 - 20.00. As for the rates, the studio charges per hour at 3,000 THB. (2,500 THB for less than one hour and 2,000 THB if the piece takes less than five minutes.)
